Dream monday morning. Was down at Lancing by 9am. Rigged up the 4.5 and had perfect cross off chest to head high waves all to myself until about 11.30. Brilliant sunshine, tide on the way out so standing depth on the inside. Waves peeling for 50m down the line. Got mullered on one run out and put the nose of the board through the monofilm 12 inches above the boom!!! Didnt completely tear though so sailed on. Then changed down to the 4m cos it was getting out of hand. That was perfection for a couple of runs, loosened my footstraps so I could get my foot more over the centre line (top tip) and the wave riding was much easier. Then I snapped the mast out the back!!!! Luckily last week, I had carefully read that rescue technique from the mags a few months ago. Took the boom off, snapped the mast in half properly, pulled out the top section and shoved it down the remaining bottom section. so it was upside down up the mast sleeve. Folded the loose top of the sail over and tied my adjustable head strap to the boom and bob's yer uncle. sailed it back to the beach, caught a wave in for the last 40m and only lost about 4 groynes downwind. Much better than a swim in an offshore wind!!

Called it a day then as the wind was shifting more offshore and the low tide meant the waves were much smaller.
